Still Driving

The car is shown without its characters, leaving their presence to be felt through absence.

It becomes more than a vehicle — it becomes a memory, carrying the energy of two people who refused to be trapped.

The challenge

The challenge was to create emotion without showing faces, bodies, or dramatic action. I had to rely on colour, composition, lighting, and empty space to suggest the story without making it too literal.

The solution

After hearing advice from my art teacher and my father that the piece was missing stronger emotion and story,

I first drew this American convertible by hand on my iPad, then I used AI to add the two female main characters. I wanted it to feel more expressive and dreamy, like colourful smoke being blown through the wind.

I decided to experiment further. I used AI as part of my creative process to explore a more abstract direction and find a way to bring out the meaning more clearly. Through this, I learned that absence can hold powerful meaning. The car is empty, but the feeling remains — as if the journey has ended, yet somehow, they are still driving.
