Old Street, Loud Memories
An early childhood drawing of an old Singapore street scene, created when I was around 7–8 years old. It captures my early interest in busy environments, culture, and visual storytelling.
This piece is less about technical perfection and more about instinct — a young attempt to capture the feeling of a place through people, movement, buildings and atmosphere.
The challenge
At that age, I did not understand proper perspective, proportion or composition yet. The biggest challenge was trying to fit a large, lively street scene onto one page while still making it feel connected and full of life.
The solution
Instead of focusing on perfect accuracy, I filled the scene with details — shop signs, umbrellas, people, bicycles, stalls and buildings — so the drawing could feel alive. The energy of the place became more important than realism, and that helped the work carry its own mood and story.
