Grey Studies

A graphite study series created around age 10–12, exploring tone, form, shadow and observation through simple objects and interior setups.

These works show the quieter side of my early practice — learning patience, structure and visual control without relying on colour.

The challenge

At this stage, the challenge was not inventing a dramatic idea. It was learning how to see properly. Simple objects became difficult because every small mistake in proportion, angle, light or shadow could change the whole drawing.

The solution

I used graphite as a slow training tool. By focusing on basic forms, still-life objects and interior spaces, I learned how to build images through value, contrast and structure. These drawings became early foundations for my later work, helping me balance imagination with observation.
